2012 PREVIEW AND PICKS Pt 2 July - Dec

Well part 1 covered January to June, and there seems to be a lot of Sci-fi coming our way in the first half of 2012, but what will the second half bring us? Here we look at the films coming our way from July to Dec and there looks to be a lot of Action in this half. Any click after the jump to check out the rest of what to expect in 2012.

Well here we go folks, what action, sci-fi, comic book blockbusters have we got to look forward to? The Dark Knight Rises? The Expendables 2? or maybe even Step Up 4?....

JULY

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN
So Sam Raimi and Toby McGuire said no to a fourth so what does Hollywood do? It completely reboots the franchise and casts Andrew Garfield (Social Network) as Peter Parker aka Spidey and from the trailers this is shaping up quite nicely and with inclusion of the villain being The Lizard, a character which Raimi hinted at during 3 of his Spider-man films, this could possibly kick the ass of those three. It's directed by
Marc Webb who previously helmed the film (500)Days Of Summer and also stars Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen and Sally Field.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES
OOOH two of comics biggest rivals fight it out in July as Christopher Nolan brings us his final Batman film in the shape of The Dark Knight Rises which continues the story set in place by the events of the previous film. This time Bats faces off against Bane played by Tom Hardy and from the footage leaked and the theatrical Trailer, this is looking pretty damn awesome.

AUGUST

THE EXPENDABLES 2
After the lackluster and slightly disappointing first outing for the Expendables, Stallone, Statham, Crewes, Couture, Li and Lundgren return this time with added bonus's of Schwartzenegger, Willis, Van Damme, Adkins and Chuck fucking Norris on board. Not sure on the plot at the moment but with a cast like this and under the direction of Simon West (Con Air) this looks to be shaping up pretty badass.

TOTAL RECALL
Now like most i was sceptical when i heard about a remake of Paul Verhoven's frankly awesome film, but then i read up on it and found out that this is in fact a by the book adaptation of Philip K. Dick's story. From the photo's that have been leaked this could turn out to be the surprise of the year. The film stars Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Beil and Bryan Cranston and is directed by Die Hard 4's Len Wiseman.

SEPTEMBER

RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION
It's fifth time the charm with this seeminly never ending franchise that has got Resident Evil wrong four time s in a row, but they are for the most part incredibly enjoyable films and Retribution looks to continue that. This time they finally introduce Leon Kennedy and Ada Wong who join regular characters Alice, Claire and  Carlos. We also see the return of Colin Salmon and Michelle Rodriguez which is weird and also the return of the best character from the second film, Jill Valentine. Again Paul W.S Anderson writes and directs this fifth instalment.

DREDD
17 years after Stallone donned the Judge helmet, Karl Urban takes his turn as the law provider of Mega City One as Judge Dredd, the most feared of the lawgivers in this reboot/new version of the 2000AD comic book character. Directed by Pete Travis (Vantage Point) and written by Alex Garland (28 Days Later), the film also stars Olivia Thirlby and Lena Headey.

LOOPER
A time travel action thriller sci-fi film from Rhian Johnson, director of the brilliant Brick, Looper stars Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the same character. It revolves around a hitmen being sent through time to kill dangerous criminals from the past. Sounds like a skewed version of Minority Report but with Gordon-Levitt and Willis this could actually turn out to be something epic.

OCTOBER

TAKEN 2
Liam Neeson returns as retired spy Brian Mills in the sequel to 2009's sleeper hit Taken, this time he and his family are in Istanbul and are taken hostage by one of the fathers of a kidnapper Brian Killed while rescuing his daughter in the first film. This film can't come quick enough, the first is a fantastic action thriller and to Neeson return to one of my favourite Characters of his is amazing. The film is directed by Olivier Megaton and written by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen.

GANGSTER SQUAD
Possibly this years L.A Confidential, this gangster/crime thriller comes from Zombieland director Ruban Fleischer and follows the L.A.P.D as they attempt to keep the east coast mafia out of L.A in the 1940's and 50s. It stars Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Nick Nolte, Emma Stone and Sean Penn as Mickey Cohen. From the photos that have surfaced online the period detail is spot on and with Gosling head lining this could be just what the gangsters ordered.

NOVEMBER

RED DAWN
The Remake finally graces our cinemas only 3 years after it was completed, this was due to MGM's financial problems at the time and also post production problems changing the invading forces from Chinese to Korean. It has a good cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Josh Peck and Jeffrey Dean Morgan and is directed by Dan Bradley. There are only a handful of production photo's online and not a single trailer, so whether this will be any good is a mystery. Fingers crossed.

SKYFALL aka Bond 23
Daniel Craig returns as Bond in Skyfall, it's directed by Sam Mendes and also stars Judy Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem and Albert Finney. Thats pretty much all i can give you as there isn't much available on the film at present.

DECEMBER

WORLD WAR Z
This is the anticipated screen adaptation of Max Brooks' popular and brilliant novel of the same name, it stars Brad Pitt and is directed my Marc Forster. Im unsure whether or not it sticks to the style of the book but which ever way they decide to go, a big budget zombie film is a plus in my book.

THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY
I have little to no interest in this film, the same as i felt about Peter Jackson's Lord Of The Rings films. This is part one of a planned double bill of Hobbit films and stars Martin Freeman as Bilbo and Ian McKellen as Gandalf. That's pretty much all i can give you as i said that there is nothing of interest here for me.

DJANGO UNCHAINED
Quentin Tarantino's follow up to Inglourious Basterds is another epic tale, this time set in the old south in the late 1880 and follows a slave who is trained in the art of the bounty hunter by a german dentist turned bounty hunter. The script that leaked online a few months back is fantastic and at 167 pages, it's an epic read but while i read it i could picture the rumoured cast in the roles. Hopefully this will be huge for Tarantino and his cast.
